Chris Smiley was the fastest in free practice at Thruxton, just ahead of Tom Ingram, for the British Touring Car Championship’s fourth round. The weather was unpredictable, with the track initially greasy and drizzly, but conditions improved for dry running later on. Ash Sutton set a blistering pace with his NAPA Ford, but it was Smiley who topped the timesheets in the final minutes. Rookie Charles Rainford impressed in third place, followed closely by Dan Cammish in fourth. The qualifying groups will be set based on the FP2 results, with the championship leaders split across the sessions.
